Why Is a Neuropsychological Assessment Performed?
Individuals with neurological conditions such as epilepsy, multiple sclerosis (MS), stroke—including cerebral thrombosis and cerebral hemorrhage—or brain tumors may experience changes in cognitive functioning. Neurodevelopmental conditions, such as Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and intellectual disability, may also be associated with specific cognitive difficulties.
These difficulties may affect areas such as memory, attention, language and verbal fluency, visuospatial abilities, processing speed, and executive functions.
A neuropsychological assessment provides a detailed understanding of an individual’s cognitive strengths and areas of difficulty. Cognitive functioning is evaluated using standardized neuropsychological tests and assessment protocols.
Based on the results, appropriate recommendations can be provided according to the individual’s needs. When indicated, neuropsychological rehabilitation may include evidence-based strategies aimed at strengthening cognitive functioning, developing compensatory strategies, and improving independence and quality of life in everyday activities.
