What We Treat
Our goal is to create a safe and comfortable environment where we can work together towards achieving meaningful therapeutic goals.Specific learning disorders affect the development of particular academic skills and may involve persistent difficulties with reading, written expression, or mathematics. Psychological and cognitive assessment can help identify the child’s specific strengths and difficulties and guide appropriate educational support.
Neurodevelopmental conditions can affect communication, social interaction, behaviour, learning, and everyday functioning. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is one of the conditions that may require specialized developmental and psychological assessment and ongoing support.
Elimination disorders involve difficulties with bladder or bowel control beyond the developmental age at which these functions would typically be expected to be established. These conditions include enuresis and encopresis.
Sleep difficulties in children and adolescents may affect the quality, timing, or duration of sleep. Persistent sleep problems can influence mood, behaviour, attention, learning, and everyday functioning.
Mood disorders involve significant disturbances in emotional state and may include depressive and bipolar disorders. In children and adolescents, symptoms can sometimes present differently from those typically observed in adults and require careful clinical assessment.
Adjustment disorders involve emotional or behavioural symptoms that develop in response to an identifiable stressful event or significant life change. In children and adolescents, these may occur following experiences such as parental separation or divorce, relocation, changing schools, family difficulties, or other significant transitions.
Internalizing disorders include emotional difficulties that are primarily experienced internally. They commonly emerge during childhood or adolescence and may include symptoms of anxiety, depression, social withdrawal, excessive worry, fear, and emotional distress.
Externalizing disorders are characterized by behavioural difficulties that are expressed outwardly. These may include impulsivity, aggression, oppositional behaviour, difficulties with emotional and behavioural regulation, and problems following age-appropriate rules and expectations.
Tic disorders include neurological and neurodevelopmental conditions characterized by involuntary motor movements and/or vocalizations. These include Tourette Syndrome and Persistent (Chronic) Motor or Vocal Tic Disorder.
Eating disorders are mental health conditions that affect eating behaviours, attitudes towards food, body image, and physical and psychological well-being. Early identification and appropriate multidisciplinary intervention can be particularly important during childhood and adolescence.
Persistent nail biting and other repetitive or problematic behaviours may sometimes be associated with anxiety, stress, emotional regulation difficulties, or behavioural patterns that benefit from psychological assessment and intervention.
Child Psychologist: Initial Psychological, Emotional, Cognitive and Behavioural Assessment Conduct Disorder
Conduct Disorder is characterized by a persistent pattern of behaviours that violate age-appropriate social norms or the rights of others. A comprehensive assessment is important to understand the child’s behaviour within their developmental, family, school, and social context.
Any persistent emotional, behavioural, developmental, or cognitive difficulty may indicate a need for professional assessment, particularly when it interferes with a child’s daily functioning, relationships, academic performance, or emotional development.
Early identification and appropriate intervention for psychological difficulties during childhood and adolescence are important components of mental health care. Psychological sessions provide a structured and supportive therapeutic environment in which children and adolescents can safely explore and express their emotions, thoughts, concerns, and experiences.
Early psychological assessment can help identify difficulties and determine whether intervention is needed. Appropriate therapeutic support can help prevent difficulties from becoming more persistent while promoting emotional well-being and healthy development. Through structured psychological interventions, children and adolescents can develop effective strategies for managing emotions, strengthening social skills, improving coping abilities, and building healthy self-esteem.
Collaboration between parents, educators, and mental health professionals can play an important role in supporting a child’s development. An integrated and open approach to mental health encourages early recognition of difficulties, reduces stigma, and creates a more supportive environment for children and adolescents.
By providing appropriate psychological support throughout these important developmental stages, we aim to help children and young people develop the emotional, social, and psychological skills they need to thrive.
